The Story of Lilia Copenhagen

Lilia Copenhagen was born out of love, responsibility, and a vision for a better world—a world where beauty doesn’t compromise health, the environment, or the welfare of animals.

As a single mother, I’ve always prioritized the well-being of my two daughters. Watching them grow, I often worried about the potential harm of inexpensive beauty products filled with harmful chemicals. The harsh reality is that truly natural, safe, and ethical makeup often comes with a high price tag—something many young people simply can’t afford.

The second spark of inspiration came from my beloved Labrador, Nala. Becoming a dog owner opened my eyes to the importance of animal welfare and the profound responsibility we, as humans, have to protect the creatures that share our world.

With these thoughts in mind, I envisioned Lilia Copenhagen: a vegan beauty brand where quality meets affordability, and care for people, our world, and animals is at the heart of every decision.

Lilia Copenhagen is a reflection of the values I hold dear as a mother, a pet owner, and an advocate for natural beauty and ethical living. Our products are dermatologically tested, 100% vegan, and free from harmful chemicals like parabens, talc and silicone. With up to 90% natural ingredients in some of our products, we aim to combine nature's goodness with cutting-edge European innovation.

All our lip glosses are developed and produced in Denmark, while our mascaras, lip tints, blushes, and highlighters are crafted in Italy. Our local production reduces the carbon footprint and allows us to maintain transparency and control at every stage of the process.

By using eco-friendly, recycled, and recyclable packaging, we actively contribute to a greener future. Additionally, 2% of our revenue is donated to initiatives supporting sustainability initiatives and animal welfare, so every purchase makes a difference.

🍓 Why Our Lip Products Are Titanium Dioxide-Free

Titanium dioxide is commonly used as a white pigment in cosmetics. While legal in makeup, it was banned in the EU as a food additive in 2022 due to uncertainty about the safety of long-term ingestion of nanoparticles. Because lip products are applied close to the mouth, we’ve chosen to avoid titanium dioxide entirely in our lip products. Instead, we use plant-based oils and mineral colourants that deliver vibrant results with carefully selected, safety-reviewed alternatives. 🌸 Why We Don’t Use Talc in Our Makeup

Talc has long been used in cosmetics for its softness and oil-absorbing qualities. However, as a natural mineral, talc can occur near asbestos in the earth. EU law requires all cosmetic-grade talc to be tested and confirmed asbestos-free. We’ve chosen to fully exclude talc. Instead, we use safe alternatives like silica, corn starch and clay-based powders. 💧 Silicone-Free Products – for Skin-Friendly Texture

Silicones are widely used in cosmetics because they create a smooth surface. While some are considered safe in small amounts, others have raised environmental concerns. They are poorly degradable and harmful to aquatic ecosystems. The EU has already limited their use in rinse-off products. We have chosen to avoid all forms of silicone. Instead, we use plant-based emollients that offer the same texture – without the use of ingredients that are poorly degradable or restricted under EU regulations. Our silicone-free formulations are designed for sensitive and breakout-prone skin, as they minimise occlusive ingredients that can contribute to skin imbalance. 🌿 Why We Formulate Without Parabens

You’ve probably seen the term “paraben-free” on many beauty products. But what does it actually mean – and why does it matter to us? Parabens are synthetic preservatives used to prevent bacteria and mold in cosmetics. While effective, some parabens such as propylparaben and butylparaben have raised concerns, as they are suspected to interfere with hormone functions. In Denmark, certain parabens are banned in products for infants, and the EU only allows low concentrations of specific parabens (e.g. 0.19%). We believe that daily-use products should be developed with a high standard of safety and transparency. That’s why we formulate all our products without parabens. Instead, we use approved, well-documented alternatives.
